"seriously! i do!" he almost shouted in the night with a laugh coming up out of his throat. okay, maybe now it seemed like he was joking around. aj made a mental note to himself to be more serious every once and a while. or at least in potentially life altering situations like this. there was no way he could give up being a goof all around.
the stirring in his gut stopped as soon as the girl began ranting before him. he couldn't help himself for what he did next. she was just to damn cute when she got flustered. aj keeled over, stopping in his footsteps and began laughing hysterically. maybe it was the nerves or maybe he just found her far too adorable for any real words, but the laughs flowed out of him. his abdominals contracted with every sound that escaped his mouth. he was afraid to look back up at her, scared that maybe she found his reaction to be offensive. his cheeks were flushed red with the blood that just rushed to them. tears were forming in his eyes from the force of the chuckles that left his throat. "i'm sorry." he laughed slightly, wiping his eyes clean. "i didn't mean to laugh." he was legitimately worried that fauna had thought his reaction was inappropriate. that would be just his luck. the endorphins that filled his body in that moment covered up the severe lack of confidence he had earlier. "i just…" his voice trailed off when he looked into her eyes.
all of the flying creatures rushed back in when he got lost in her green eyes. he bit his lip, trying to find the words to say next. he was going to have to pick them very carefully. it was now or never. he had to take the leap and hope that the landing was soft. aj nervously began ruffling his hair. his curly locks were already messy enough, but running his hands through them gave him something to do to bide time while he thought of words. he hand found his way behind his neck in a nervous stance. "what if i said that i was the one who liked you?" that was it. his heart was on the table. it was for her taking. andrew james green had finally mustered enough confidence to admit that he liked fauna. waiting for a response literally killed him. it didn't matter if it was minutes or seconds, every moment put him more on edge.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, background-image:url(http://i54.tinypic.com/2vafwqd.jpg), border: solid #ffffff 5px; width: 400px; height: 500px;] fauna's eyes went wide slightly. aj greene had just told her that he liked her. she was pretty sure she was dreaming, because that is when something like this ever happened. she felt her face flush, and her butterflies going out of control, to the point where she giggled lightly. fauna wasn't a giggly kind of girl. only around people that made her feel the way aj did, and that wasn't a lot of people. for some reason, he was someone who she just wanted to be with, someone she wanted to share everything with. she started to twirl her hair, and looked at him. she felt like, well, honestly, she felt like she was going to puke. people said that when the person you like tells you that they like you, you are supposed to feel like you are flying. well no, that was not the case for fauna madley. she felt like she was going to puke, and she felt like she might faint. her head was slightly dizzy, but she was thinking it was probably due to the excitement that she felt inside. at least that's what she hoped. she didn't want to actually puke in front of him after this. that would be a strange way of saying, 'i like you too.'
"to be quite honest aj," she said, her voice shaking lightly, "i like you too. quite a lot actually." her voice was quiet, like just a whisper. and her eyes were toward the ground as she ruffled her hair. she moved it so it parted on the other side, and she saw red glimpses in front of her eyes. but her hair was long enough that she just moved it so it was out of her eyes. she couldn't believe this was happening. she had just confessed her attraction to him, and he had confessed his to her. she bit her lower lip, unsure of what to do. then she let her mouth take over again. "and i have for quite a while. i mean, obviously not since i first met you, but definitely sometime like that, since you're just the sweetest person i've ever met. and... i don't know. i don't think you know how happy i am right now." she didn't look it, she knew that, she was just a nervous wreck. she didn't know how to act around aj when she thought they were just friends, nevermind when she found out that he liked her, and that all those times she wished that he would like her were finally coming true. she didn't know how tonight would end, but she knew that it would probably be a benefit to her.
she stopped walking, not being able to walk with all those butterflies. she licked her lips and looked at him. she didn't know what to do, what to say, anything. she was stuck there, in this weird state of silence where they had just confessed to each other, but fauna didn't know what to do next. in movies, they'd probably kiss. but this wasn't a movie. this was fauna's life, and it was most definitely not a movie. she had a lot of drama that she had, and although in a movie, it would be good to have some drama. but in a real life situation, it was the last thing fauna wanted. fighting all the time with her parents, not even talking to them anymore. it was something that she hated, and she wished that was different in her life. but she couldn't fix it, she couldn't fix anything in her life. she was stuck with what she had, and she hoped that aj could still like her for it. she hoped that maybe things with them would always be okay. but she didn't know for sure.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, background-image:url(http://i54.tinypic.com/2vafwqd.jpg), border: solid #ffffff 5px; width: 400px; height: 500px;] the moments he waited killed him. his nerves were sitting on pins and needles. his only focus right now was on fauna. everything else seemed to be a blur. the moon that lit up the sky was entirely out of focus. the street lamps that showed the paved sidewalk turned into a tunnel that looked straight at her and nothing else. all attention was placed in waiting for one response that would effect their friendship, their potential relationship from now on. "to be quite honest" she started, making aj feel nervous. it didn't matter how long or short it took her to say the next words, he was already preparing himself for rejection. maybe she would say something along the lines of 'you're too weird for me' or 'i just don't like you'. the worst was being prepped for. luckily, his extremely low expectations made her next statement seem to be at an all time high. "really?!" he exclaimed, needing some sort of confirmation that what he heard was true. aj probably looked like a child whose mother told him that they were going on the next flight to disney world. he just couldn't believe it.
fauna olivia madly actually returned his feelings. the more words she spoke, the better he felt about what he had just did. in his mind, he congratulated himself. the was proud that he actually read the signs right for once and told a girl he liked them when he wasn't blackout drunk or about to be totally rejected. she seemed nervous. it was kind of a good sign because aj was nervous himself. elation just took him over and stole the words from his mouth. he was speechless and unsure of what to do now. "huh, i think i know how happy you are." aj started talking. she confessed to him, so he would give her a confession of his own. "i've had a huge crush on you since i worked my first shift with you. weird, i know." he laughed, bringing his arm down from behind his head and putting it in his pocket. "you're just really awesome, faun." he could have kicked himself. that probably wasn't exactly the compliment she was looking for. girls liked to be called beautiful and all of that stuff. 'awesome' wasn't exactly a romantic adjective. oh well, it had already slipped out of his mouth. his laid back nature had way too much of a grip over his vocabulary.
he moved closer toward her and found the confidence to smile down at the girl. it was time to seal the deal. ask her on a date, kiss her, take her hand. something had to be done. he reached for her hands on either side of her body and held them lightly in his, unsure of whether she wanted to be touched at all. there were friendly nudges here and there at the restaurant, but this was an entirely different situation. "there's this cool after hours thing at the aquarium." his voice dropped to a husky whisper when he noticed the proximity of their faces. a normal tone would be inappropriate for the moment. "would you wanna go to it with me?" again, another stupid statement that he needed to clarify. that could have just been another friendly invitation to hang out for anyone else that would see this. aj needed to use his words a lot more wisely. "like, as a date?" so maybe he wasn't the most eloquent of all speakers. but at least he got his point across.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, background-image:url(http://i54.tinypic.com/2vafwqd.jpg), border: solid #ffffff 5px; width: 400px; height: 500px;] fauna's face flushed even more than usual. this was just too good to be true. she had always pictured this kind of moment in her head, but she had never actually imagined he would like her back, that they would have a moment like this. it was a typical night for fauna to picture in her head what it would be like when aj confessed his love for her, but she always thought that it would be a fantasy. she never thought that one night, on her way home from work, aj would stop her from running away from what she thought was some sort of rapist, and just... confess to her that he liked her for a while now. and she had felt the same way. it was like the stars were lining up for her. but she knew that at some point, it wasn't going to end happily ever after. nothing ever turned out for her like that, but she was going to try this out, and hopefully everything would work out for her, for them. even if all her thoughts pointed to no.
she giggled when he told her that she was awesome. it wasn't exactly the most eloquent thing to say, or the most romantic, but it was a reason why aj was someone that fauna could be around. she didn't want someone who was perfect, she wanted someone who was real. not someone who was fake. and she was glad that she could find someone like him. "I guess I think you're awesome too," she said, her voice light and happy. she didn't think that her voice could be anything but. "though i think you're more than awesome." that part was more shy than anything, but she was extremely happy to be with him right now. she then felt his hands grasp hers, and her face flushed even more. she looked down at the sidewalk, her mind not being able to grasp what was going on now. she couldn't believe it. but she knew that everything was working out, even if it was just for a little bit.
"like a date?" he asked. the butterflies came shooting through her again, and she looked up at him. their faces were so close, his voice low and husky, and her face was hot. she bit her lower lip and she squeezed his hands very lightly. "of course," she said, her eyes locking with his. once she drowned in his eyes, she couldn't look away from them. there was just so much she had to take in right now, and she was glad that aj was here. she was glad that she had stopped running to be with him and that he had asked to escort her home. but she couldn't look away from him. his face was flawless to her, his dimples just the cutest thing in the entire world. she bit her lower lip again as she looked away, just for a second, to come back and look at him again. she hoped that he kissed her, that they could just seal the deal. knowing her luck it wouldn't happen, but that was what she needed from him right now. to make the butterflies go to an all-time-high.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, background-image:url(http://i54.tinypic.com/2vafwqd.jpg), border: solid #ffffff 5px; width: 400px; height: 500px;] the last few moments with fauna we sort of humorous to aj. not in a laugh out loud sort of way, but in an ironic sense. everything seemed to be like it was played out perfectly on the big screen, but this was obviously reality. the dialogue could have used some edits. then it might be actually perfect. it was too bad aj could never find exactly the right words to say, but he was glad that fauna understood. so what if 'awesome' wasn't the most romantic way of describing a girl that aj had just confessed his crush to. it was his way of expressing himself and that made him unique. granted, it was stupid of him to say that in this situation, but he got a kick out of fauna calling him awesome too. "nah." he brushed off her comment about him being more awesome than her. "you've definitely got me beat." he gave her a sideways smile, the left side of his mouth curling up higher than the right.
and there it was. the finally answer. the moment that sealed the deal. fauna madley had actually agreed to go on a date with aj greene. every single even of the day led up to this perfect moment. his tiring shift with her, him accidentally scaring her, him offering to walk her home, and the conversation that went on between them. everything accumulated to this moment. call him a romantic, but fate gave him this day. this moment was absolutely meant to happen to them. right here, right now. aj didn't notice at first, but he had been holding his breath for a few moments as he got lost in the allure of her eyes. he swallowed hard, taking all of the nerves down with it. his pulse was racing and he was unsure of what to do next. he had accomplished what he set out to do, so where was he to go from there? impulse took over and he brought his hands up to cup the sides of fauna's slim face. he finally let his breathe escape him and he placed his lips upon hers.
it wasn't a huge, terribly passionate kiss, but it was just enough to send electric shocks throughout his entire body. he didn't know how people ever saw sparks fly until this moment. not only were the sparks flying between them, but they were flowing through him. all of his nerves flew out the window. the butterflies ceased to dance, stunned by whatever feeling was making it's way through his body. there was nothing else in the world right now but the gorgeous redhead that he was locking lips with. the small peck seemed to last forever in his mind. he didn't want it to end, but if the girl ever wanted to go home, he was going to have to pull away sometime. he slowly opened his eyes as he moved his face away from hers. the moon was hitting her pale skin in just the right way. maybe he was just lovestruck, but she seemed to glisten in the dark. he couldn't talk, so he just gave her a slight smile and kept his eyes locked on hers. the sparks were flying alright.
