minnie was huddled up in the small room where she had her washer and dryer, a large blanket held tight around her. she had turned on her dryer and washer, hoping that the sound of them would drown the sound of thunder. it was pointless, though. she jumped everytime the sound of the roar entered her ear, getting more and more scared as the house rattled. when she was younger and her father was drunk, he'd always strike her and use her both for his amusement and frustration. there were many times he'd thrown her outside during storms and she had to find any little space she could to keep safe. she'd never been fond of them since then and always tried her hardest not to relive old memories, but like now, that was all that went through the back of her mind.

another roar of thunder shook her small apartment and she gasped, jumping. a hand reached out from the small ball she'd formed of herself, shakily searching for her phone. her face twisted with fear and anxiety, latching on the small device and struggling to turn on the screen so she could call johnny. her hand immediately fell to her side when earlier played in her head. they'd gotten in an argument when she reufsed to go to a party with him that the other players had invited him to because she needed to finish some homework. like hell she was getting anything done now. she dropped her phone and curled in her legs, bringing her hands up to cover up her ears as her knees came to her chest. she just wanted this to be over.

slowly, she began to rock herself back and forth, attemmpting to self-soothe herself. she'd never been a big fan of trusting people she met, even the closer friends she made. so, she'd grown accustomed to taking care of herself. this wasn't the first time a storm hit and most certainly wasn't going ot be the last. "..it's okay, minnie..you are going to be okay." she reassured herself, knowing there was no way to handle this than to just be patient and wait for it to be over. she hoped that would be sooner rather than later. softly, she began to hum some old song that she'd heard when she was at johnny's the other day, finding anything that may make this a bit easier on her than it was. "...it'll be over soon, just relax..."

---- THE durable heel of his shoe stepped on to the hard ground below him as he felt a drop of water fall on his nose; then another fell, and another. the drops of rain began increasing in number until millions of them fell from the sky above and down to the earth. a loud clasp of thunder made a few car alarms go off and start wailing helplessly for their protectors. the brunette let a string of profanities escape her lips and sprinted back over to his car, his fingers working at the remote attached to his key chain in order to command the door to unlock. once he reached the expensive vehicle, he opened the door swiftly just before stepping in and sitting down. he knew he was soaking up the car seat, which he loathed doing, but minnie was definitely worth it. knowing that she was petrified of thunder storms meant that he could not be at the party, he had to be with her. his wet fingers worked to put the keys in the ignition, and soon enough the car was fired up and he pulled out to head over to minnie’s residence.

---- BROWN orbs rolled as he realized beautiful blonde girlfriend won this fight because of the storm. he had asked her to go to a party with him and she refused for her studies. it was a pain because whenever she wanted to go somewhere he had to deal with his baseball duties, whenever he wanted to do something she had to study for her schooling. still, he would win a little in his mind; she hated when he drove without wearing the seatbelt, and that was exactly what he was doing now. it was only fair seeing as he was messing up with car seat by wetting it for her. hah, take that minnie. within twenty minutes he arrived at the familiar house. soon enough he was out of the car and at her front door, opening it up with the spare key she gave him (because he demanded to have one) in case of emergencies. after all, you could never be too cautious when it comes to protecting those you care about. opening the door, he stepped onto the mat in front of the door, knowing a puddle must have been forming there from the water dripping off his body. "BABE?" he called out while his body shivered, he hoping to receive an answer from her. to be honest, johnny doubted that she had gone anywhere since she did not know too many people in miami yet. but if she had, he would be definitely upset.

a sharp intake of breath was followed by a weak whimper, another strike of thunder bringing her further into her past that she'd wanted. her hands tightly packed against her ears, shaking her head as she wished it all gone. she hated this and wondered why she had even been this weak to let herself be scared of something that would never hurt her. she bit her lip, trying her hardest to take slow and relaxed breaths, all of which were in vain. they came out shaky and uneven, matching the movements of her hands and whole body, trembling. she began to slowly rock her body again, thinking of good thoughts. that's what a past therapist had suggested. find your happy place. minnie was at a lost. what was her happy place and did she even have one? then something flashed through the back of her mind. johnny. she began to think of him.

he had been her happy place, as ironic as it may be, since they tended to fight almost all the time. but she was in love with him and the times he was sincere shadowed the hard times by far. a humorless smile crossed her lips when she thought she had heard his voice, thinking she was getting to caught up in thinking of him that she was actually beginning to hear his voice. she opened her eyes and slowly stood up. there had been no way it was in her mind if it sounded so realistic. she walked out of the washing room in a rush, her face whipping side to side, curling in herself slightly, her legs threatening to give in under her when another roar filled her head. she leaned against the wall and slowly walked out of the hallway, looking up. her lips quivered and she took off towards him.

she stopped in front of him, looking up to him with an insecure look. she hadn't known what to do. they'd fought, so she wasn't sure if they were supposed to be in an argument. then thunder struck and she flung herself into him on instinct, her arms wrapping around him. "oh johnny...i'm so sorry..i should have gone with you to the party." yeah, right. she'd be a wreck had she gone and the storm hit while they were there. but, she didn't want to tell him she'd been terrified and needed him. if he hadn't known that, he wouldn't be there. she pulled away, realizing something, her eyes getting watery as she offered a small smile up to him. "..you're missing your party."

---- THE the brunette and the blonde had been together for a very long time. there was no harm in saying that sometimes jonathan felt bored and missed the mere chase of going after a new girl, on the other hand seeing minique’s smile form across her lips made his life so much better. perhaps, it was all an act of egocentricity. he tried to make her happy because, in return, it would make him feel bliss as well. it was not something he fully understood. when they began dating in high school, he went into it thinking that he would solely be with her for a week or two. that is how a decent chunk of relationships in secondary school happened to be. the couples would love each other immensely one day and then they would loathe each other the next. of course, the blonde girl and the tall boy had their fair share of arguments over the years, but he could not remember the last time they ‘spilt up’ because if that ever happened it was only for fifteen minutes before either of them realize what a grave mistake they had committed.

---- HIS eyes followed her frame and watched as they stopped in front of him. to be frank, he thought she took the abrupt pause because he was soaking in rain water. he would think twice too before hugging a person in those conditions. suddenly, the sound of thunder came rushing in again. his petite girlfriend jumped into his arms, causing him to lose balance and step back slightly before gaining his steadiness and wrapping his arms around her as well. "STOP PLAYING, WE BOTH KNOW YOU’D BE MISERABLE AT THE PARTY," johnny knew her very well. hell, after all the years they had been together he could practically finish her statements for her. he watched as she looked up at him, her oceanic orbs forming tears before she spoke out. "NAH, I WENT BUT IT WAS LAME," if there was something about their relationship he loved it was that he could still lie without getting caught. he was not about to play the caring boyfriend just like that; he would much rather be indifferent. he needed to prove that he had won their little argument, even if all that mattered was keeping her safe and warm. speaking of warm, he looked down at himself and pushed her away from him gently. "I’M DRENCHED IN WATER," he murmured, bringing his hand to the back of his neck. "NOW YOU ARE TOO," after the words flowed from his mouth, he chuckled softly. they definitely needed a change of clothes now, or no clothes. whatever worked best.

the relationshop between the two was by no means normal. minnie couldn't remember how many times she was told to leave johnny behind and move on to something better. they always told her that she could find someone who treated her better and went on to give her a whole bunch of crap. but, she couldn't imagine life without him. they didn't know the johnny she knew. they weren't the ones who got to experience the true hapiness and joy he would bring in the moments where he was sincere. besides, it wasn't like he was the only one who began the arguments. whenever she was scared or sad, johnny would be by her side, ready to help her through what she was going. just the way he was helping her right now. feeling his arms around her made her feel safe. it made her feel thats she wasn't alone. and most importantly, that her father could not harm her anymore.

she wouldn't have been the only one miserable at the party if she had gone. he would have probably been so embarrassed and wanted to kill her if she'd pulled out one of her panic attacks in publics. the tabloids would probably love to write about the "baseball's player psychotic girlfriend" if they were given the chance. hearing him tell her that tha party had been lame, she laughed and the tears fell from her eyes, the back of her hand coming up to wipe them away. "i'm glad i could help you leave it then." she looked up to him, a lop-sidded grin on her face as she looked down to her damp clothing. he'd always been there to help her when the storms came, so she came to just grow comfortable with him around. so, she figured that's why she wasn't so scared anymore. the thunder or drumming of water against the room could barely be heard as she gave all her attention to the boy in front of her. he was her escapse.

when she was pryed away from him, she looked at him then down to her clothing, which had, in fact, been soaked. she stepped to the side and crossed her arms over her chest, looking up to him. "uh- in the back of my closet, i have the clothes that you leave here sometimes." she began to walk towards her room, figuring she was going to have to change too. "i also have that uh.." she brought up her hand, looking forward to hide her embarassed expression. "-set of matching robes i made you buy when we went out of town for one of your games once." yeah, she thought they were cute and had asked him to buy them with her. she could remember to look he'd given her now, pickin gup her hand to cover the amused smile that help the edges of her lips up, a soft laugh coming from them. "..are you hungry?" she cleared her throat to stop from giggling further, turning to look at him. "i could make you-" thunder hit and she merely paused, shutting her eyes before she started up again. "i could make you something to eat." he hadn't been here long and things were already getting better.
