it was late in the afternoon. kayla had just finished her shift in the cafe. feeling exhausted as she would always be, she knew she should go anywhere but home. since morning, she had planned to go to the beach after work. she had brought along bikini and her beachwear. she loved the beach. before she had gotten herself a job, she used to spend all summer long in the beach with her friends. that was how life was supposed to be. but not anymore. she had a job now and she could no longer spend the afternoon outside, though she would normally party till late at night or early in the morning.
once she was at the beach, she sat down on the golden sand. the beach had always brought a joyful feeling to her. kay could see the kids running around, building sandcastles and collecting seashells. she could also see teenagers of her age, laughing and shouting at each other, playing volleyball and sun tanning. she looked like the only person who did not have a wide smile on her face. she looked around. everyone was having a great time but her. "this is the worst summer. ever." she thought. the sky had turned orange. she was getting excited. she liked to watch the sun set. the waves crashed. she could see a number of people surfing. she had always wanted to learn how to surf. she had tried, but of course, she failed. she lied down flat to the sand and she could feel the warmth of the sand on her skin. she realized how much she had missed the beach.

taking a deep breath and turning around, he finally decided he had enough of the ocean for now. he was going to have to sit down for a little while before heading back down. before he made it to his towel though, he noticed a familiar platinum blonde head of hair. it was kayla theodore. one of the few people that didn't like andrew at all. sure, he could get one other's nerves with his antics, but everything was usually cool when he calmed down. kayla, however, seemed to strongly dislike him for whatever reason. he despretely wanted to find out. he hated when people hated him. aj just wanted everyone to be happy with him at all times. the sun began to set as he made his way to her, still sopping wet from the ocean.
"hey there, kayla!" he greeted with a smile and a wave. he was going to be as courteous to her as possible. maybe eventually she would warm up to him? the girl was sort of known for being a bitch, but even andrew had hit moments, so he held hope that she had a softer side to her as well. "nice seeing you here!" he exclaimed, feeling the water drip from his hair, down his face. he was going to have to grab his towel eventually, but he was going to start a conversation with the girl if it was the last thing he did.

kayla was day dreaming and wasn't really paying attention when she heard someone talk. she had no idea that the person was actually talking to her. at first, she ignored it. and when she was happily scanning around, she noticed a familiar guy. it was andrew. andrew had always been the same annoying guy to kayla. she hated being around him. he would put on that same smile whenever he saw her. "what are you doing here?" she said, surprised by his presence. she did not want aj to ruin the fun she was having. although all she was doing was sitting, enjoying the sunset and watching the wave crashed. she had all the reasons in the world to hate this guy. this was the same guy who kept irritating her all the time. aj was the type who could not accept haters in his life and kayla could not understand why. wasn't it very normal to have haters? well, kayla enjoyed having haters. it felt like she didn't have to care about anyone's feelings at all.
she wanted to make aj go away. but she knew she would fail. kayla felt like aj's hobby was to keep following people around and irritating them. "well. i hate to tell you this, but it isn't nice seeing you here."
[/b] she said with sarcasm and rolled her eyes. "go away!" she said impatiently, pushing him away from her sight. he was soaking wet and he smelt like the ocean. his smell was probably the only thing kayla was enjoying at the moment. she loved the smell of the ocean. she used to spend a lot of time in the beach with her parents, too, when she was younger. before her mother passed away and her dad turned into one pyscho abusive father. she had always been interested to learn how to surf. when she was about six years old, kayla decided that building sandcastles wasn't her thing, unlike surfing. her father used to teach her how to surf, but she had never gotten any good at surfing. but too bad, her father wasn't the old loving and caring father anymore. she had to basically put up with all her dad's nonsense everyday. she wouldn't mind staying anymore else but her home. she wished she could even live in the beach, watching all the happy people doing their thing. ■ TAGGED ■ AJ ■ WORDS ■ CLUELESS ■ OUTFIT ■ CLICK!■ NOTES ■ <3 ■ CREDIT ■ BROOKE FROM CAUTION[/size][/blockquote][/blockquote]

"i'm just enjoying the beach, like everyone else." he smiled, answering her question. what she said was most likely rhetorical and not meant to be answered, but he took it as a conversation starter. with kayla, he would take what he could get. if she wasn't completely ignoring aj, he would make all the sad attempts in the world to speak to her. "nice outside today, eh?" despite the fact that the sun was going down, it was still a beautiful day in miami. the night was on the cusp of falling. andrew hardly noticed that he had literally been at the beach all day. there was no doubt sunburn on his shoulders, but he didn't mind.
kayla's next words were much more harsh. he actually make a slight laugh at her when she rolled her eyes. that was probably the wrong thing to do, but he couldn't help himself. aj found it kind of funny that she put all of this energy into disliking him. "it's a free beach, kayla!" he shot his arms out to his sides in a low v formation, slinging some water down with it. he hoped that he didn't accidentally get some on her. that would prove to be disastrous. "i just thought i'd say hello to a familiar face." he smiled, crossing his arms in front of his body and standing his ground. andrew wasn't about to leave without some semblance of a conversation. "may i ask what you're doing here?" his question was more conversational. there wasn't a hint of surprise or spite in it like kayla's was.

kayla felt that this charmer aj was doing whatever it takes to change all the negative thoughts she had about him. but she had to admit that she admired aj for one thing: his patience. if kayla was he, she had surely stomped off. she didn't even know anyone who would actually tried so hard like him. why couldn't he accept the fact that kayla didn't want them to be friends and that was why she kept pushing him away from her. kayla hated to be too closed to anyone. she had spent all her life growing up independently, so she didn't see why she needed anyone else around her.
kayla ignored his answers. she was getting really tired. she could feel few drops of water on her body. but it wasn't the rain. it was just aj. although she would normally make a big deal out of it, this time, she didn't. instead she let it go. mainly it was because she just wanted their argument to end already so he would leave her alone and secondly, the water actually felt great as it tingled down her skin. what could be better than some chilling sensation in a hot summer in miami.
"familiar face, huh?"
[/b] she scoffed. "if you haven't noticed yet, i was enjoying the beach until you came."[/b] she replied coldly to aj. she didn't want to be any meaner to aj. she didn't want to stir up any drama that people in the beach would start noticing and watching them. and she had gotten real tired. her body was aching. she picked up her flip flops on the sand and she started moving to the other part of the beach, away from him. "since you are not going to go away, i am." she decided and started walking away. ■ TAGGED ■ AJ ■ WORDS ■ CLUELESS ■ OUTFIT ■ CLICK!■ NOTES ■ <3 ■ CREDIT ■ BROOKE FROM CAUTION[/size][/blockquote][/blockquote]

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, background-image:url(http://i54.tinypic.com/2vafwqd.jpg), border: solid #ffffff 5px; width: 400px; height: 500px;] aj could tell he was being ignored from the very start. too bad it didn't irk him as much as kayla thought it did. he was used to dealing with difficult people from his job. customers at the restaurant could be very ornery and annoying. he never let it show though. he would always stand back and just listen to them complain to him before he walked away with a grin and grabbed a manager. andrew didn't particularly enjoy confronting other people. it usually turned into a fight and those were to be avoided at all costs. kayla on the other hand, might not leave without one though. the girl was tough, he'd give her that. but he could just tell that someway, somehow he could break through her outer shell and get to her. he had done that with one of his best friends. why couldn't he do it with her?
he nodded when she began responding and smirked ever so slightly when she told him that she was enjoying the beach. "technically, i was here before you." noting the fact that he was standing in the water when she had arrived at the beach. he just noticed himself dripping wet again and felt the cool night breeze rolling in across his skin. he was going to need to dry off soon. the nights in miami could get a little chilly. that was surprising considering the beautiful sunny weather that went on all day. though, it wasn't anything he wasn't used to already. living in a desert in phoenix before he got here, he was accustomed to boiling hot days and bone chilling nights.
he saw her reach for her flip flops and he almost panicked. this conversation was not about to be cut so short. "oh, c'mon kayla!" he whined in a playful way, throwing his arms toward the ground again. she started to move away from him. luckily, it was in the path of his towel. he grabbed it and wrapped it around himself before speaking out again. "you really can't just talk to me for five minutes?" he asked. it was unbelievable to him that people could just walk away from others. if he saw someone he knew on the street, he would stop and say hi, eventually turning into a thirty minute conversation. he never knew when to stop with a friend. "i'm just trying to be friendly here." he shrugged and laughed slightly.

kayla smiled without her even realizing it. maybe aj wasn't really that after all. he was right. why couldn't she try spending more time with aj? maybe even she got to know him than things weren't be so bad between them. she sighed and she stopped when aj wrapped himself in a towel. it was getting chilly. she hugged herself, trying to keep herself warm. the beach was still crowded, but not as crowded as before. "okay. fine. i will try to be nice to you." she finally said, giving in to him. she remembered that was how most of her friendship began. someone tried to approach her, but being a bitch like usual, she would push them away and there were only two possibilities. either the person was like aj; never giving up and would try to keep talking to her or the person would be a bitch too, and they would both end up in fight.
she kept walking. she could feel the wind blowing, messing up her hair. she pushed her hair back from her face. she looked at aj, trying to make it look not obvious so he won't know she was looking at him. "can you at least dry yourself first?" she suggested and her tone was friendlier than before. she didn't want aj to think she cared about him, but she thought he might feel cold. she knew that he had most probably spent the entire day in the water and now that the sun had set, the air had turned cold. "so.. don't you have a job or something? why do you seem so.." she was paused. "not busy."
[/b] she continued, emphasizing on the two words. it was unfair that aj was able to spend the whole day enjoying living his life while the only free time for kayla was only when she was done with work. ■ TAGGED ■ AJ ■ WORDS ■ CLUELESS ■ OUTFIT ■ CLICK!■ NOTES ■ <3 ■ CREDIT ■ BROOKE FROM CAUTION[/size][/blockquote][/blockquote]

"i've got a hoodie in my bag if you want it." he shrugged, still not wiping all of the water off his body quite yet. he was alright with the breeze chilling him every so slightly. it soothed the sunburn he had forming on his back. "you look kinda cold." aj was actually willing to give others the shirt off of his back if they asked for it. that was the kind of guy he was. always willing to help another out.
he grinned wide when she finally decided to be nice to him. he snapped out of his state of happiness when she told him to dry off. "well, yeah, i had all intentions of doing that." he mentioned awkwardly while taking the towel to his curly locks and shaking them out. the water began to absorb in his slightly sandy towel and remove if from him. he started to tend to his arms when she began to speak again. he laughed at her remark. aj always managed to seem like he had nothing to worry about in the world when in reality, he was pretty damn busy. his days off were something he cherished and too full advantage of, like today.
"yes, i have a job." andrew started, answering her question. "i work at a restaurant like two blocks down from yours." he felt weird putting in the last detail, but he knew almost everything about everybody because he hung around so many people all the time. "i also have school. you've just never bothered to acknowledge me." he put in. aj hung out with most of the university of miami population at parties. that was where he first met kayla and it was annoyance at first sight on her part. he was probably just a bit too crazy for her, but aj didn't see that.

when aj offered her his hoodie, she immediately know that she was wrong about him. maybe she used to think that aj had tried so hard to be friends with her because he wanted something, but now she was convinced that he was just trying to be a friend. and well, she actually thought he was a gentleman. he knew how to treat a girl right, although most guys these days are a total opposite of aj. but of course, she didn't say that to aj. she just kept quiet. "nah. its okay. i'm not cold." she rejected his offer politely. even though she had changed her opinion about aj, she wasn't just going to take a hoodie from him like that. she would rather freeze.
kayla was confused when he was suddenly all happy. it was actually quite creepy. "don't ever grin like that again. you look like an idiot and it creeps me out." she said, raising her eyebrows. kayla was kicking the sand while walking. it was just her habit. she stopped and stared at him when he said he worked at a restaurant two block down from the cafe she was working at. "what?! so you actually know where i work at?" she paused. "should i be worried that you are a stalker or what?" she continued, but this time, she didn't mean it seriously. she was just trying to joke around aj. anyway she had decided to try to be friends with aj and if she didn't feel comfortable and dislike being around him, she could just avoid him and if that didn't work, she could apply all those lessons she was thought at self-defense classes. she was even more surprised when he told him he was also in school. "well, it is because i have never seen you around school before. even though if i hated you, which i did, i would have known if you were in the same school as i am." she finally said again, defending herself. kayla had spent so much time in school and she couldn't believe that she had never seen aj around before. she must have at least seen him once or twice somewhere around school before, but she really couldn't recall at all.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, background-image:url(http://i54.tinypic.com/2vafwqd.jpg), border: solid #ffffff 5px; width: 400px; height: 500px;] aj couldn't help but feel a tad bit rejected with kayla refused his sweatshirt. the girl looked cold and he was just trying to help out. of course, it would probably take her longer than a few minutes to warm up to him, pun intended. he simply decided to shrug it off and pick at the corner of his towel. "well, the offer's on the table." he mentioned, figuring that maybe eventually she would give in and just take the damn hoodie. andrew knew he could only stand the cold for so long, but his body was radiating so much heat from his burn that he didn't even need a sweatshirt. "you know where to get it if you want it." aj pointed at the bag that he brought to the beach. it wasn't filled with much. just a t-shirt, hoodie, and a frisbee. the frisbee was just in case he met a friend in the sand, but seeing that the night was falling, it didn't look like he would be needing it.
to be honest, aj didn't notice the stupid grin forming on his face. he smiled so much that he rarely even had to consciously tell himself to. the insult actually made aj grin even wider, forcing his dimples to press into his face. he let out a light laugh before covering his mouth quickly, knowing laughing probably wasn't the right thing to do after kayla had talked bad about his weird smile. "sorry" he muttered behind laced fingers. the sound was warped and interesting to hear from the dome of his palms. dropping his hands from his face, he followed the girl. he observed her legs as she kicked the sand. it looked like something fun to do, but he thought twice before mirroring her actions. he was too scared to kick sand onto kayla.
"yup, class a stalker, right here." aj laughed, understanding that the girl's remarks weren't insults. he was happy that she actually seemed to be joking around with him. though, her jokes were witty and sarcastic in the cruel sense, he got her humor. his best friend levi was a lot like that. he went wide eyed at her next words. did she really not remember him from university of miami? he had seen her face in his head so many times, around campus and at parties. "i guess i'm just good with faces." he shrugged. "or maybe you don't care to check out the psychology part of school." his major was sort of stuck in their own realm. all of the majors seemed that way. sort of like high school all over again, except instead of stereotypes, it was future careers. "but we've been at tons of parties together. you have to remember those!" the university parties weren't the greatest in all of miami, but they were the ones andrew usually frequented. he rarely remembered the people until the reminded him days later, but he remember kayla.

kayla soon realized that aj must have felt rejected. not that she cared, but she wanted to do something for him, after her bad attitude towards him for the first few times they met. "okay fine." she said, as though aj had forced her to take his hoodie, which he didn't. she walked to the table, looked for aj's bag and she carefully unzipped it. she saw the hoodie he was talking about. he took it out of his bag and put it on. the hoodie smelt new and fresh. it smelled like detergent, the one that had just been laundry. the hoodie was a little oversized for a small body like hers, but it still managed to keep her warm.
"i was just kidding, you know. smile and grin however wide you want. i don't care." she said and smiled to him. she had to try to be nice to him. many people knew kayla as a bitch, but aj didn't seem to care even a little bit about it. she still made the effort to know her and she thought that she had to put in a little effort to know him too. "i need to seriously figure out a way to be nice to you. just to let you know, it takes time." she told aj. "and oh! thanks for this."
"can we just sit here?" she finally suggested. she wanted to spend the night outside, enjoying the chilly wind, watching the waves crashed under the bright stars. although there were not many stars, she could spot some. she had always been interested in astronomy, especially the stars and planets. "well, i really couldn't remember seeing you anywhere." she said, giving up recalling all those times. however, when aj said that he recalled seeing her several times in parties, she could recall seeing aj too, a few times. "oh. i could remember seeing you in some parties. after all its called parties. i tend to forget things i did at parties, you know. like who i met and such." she explained to aj. she went to tons of parties before, and she would normally take pills and drink a lot which made her forget things like who she hooked up with or the people she met.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, background-image:url(http://i54.tinypic.com/2vafwqd.jpg), border: solid #ffffff 5px; width: 400px; height: 500px;] am's eyes widened slightly when the girl forcefully declared that she was going to take his sweater. it wasn't like he had thrown it at her and held a gun to her head until she put it on, but her words seemed to come out that way. it didn't matter too much though, because he realized that she probably wouldn't be cold anymore. he was glad that he had done the laundry not too long ago, so it probably still smelled of dryer sheets and not at all like the apartment floor of a twenty year old guy. "it looks good on you." he mentioned, not in a flirty way, but simply as a statement. there was something about a girl in an article men's clothing that was attractive to aj. like when a girl wore men's sweatpants or an undershirt. the fact that it usually was oversized was cute to him.
kayla was putting in every ounce of effort it took to be decent to aj. he was taking every second of it in. he grinned again, but not as wide as before. he didn't want to get a comment back from her again. he pulled his towel tighter around his shoulders as she spoke to him. "honestly, just talking to you is cool." he stated. he didn't care if she was a total bitch to him or if she was civil. the face that he had human interaction was enough. "though, being nice is a plus." he laughed a little bit. kayla didn't have to force nice with aj if she didn't want to. he never wanted anyone to be anything other than who they were. if she still wasn't completely cool with aj, he didn't care too much. "you're welcome." he smiled at the nice words that she was pouring out.
andrew nodded at kayla's suggestion to sit down. to be honest, the boy had been on his feet all day. he was swimming in the water or walking around in the sand, so he was pretty tuckered out. he crouched down and fell back into a seated position. curling the towel around his whole torso, he dug his feet in the cooling sand. he wrapped his arms around his legs and rested his head on his knees. his eyes remained on kayla, listening intently. he laughed when she told him she couldn't remember the parties. "it's all good!" he laughed some more, knowing fully well that he didn't exactly remember everyone and their mother when he was drunk. "i was probably completely hammered half the time too." his one vice, his singular demon was his drinking habits. not that he was an alcoholic, but he never knew his limits. friends would hand him drink after drink and he would never stop because he felt rude denying them. "what are you studying at school anyway?" he asked, curious because he honestly didn't know. he had seen her around. but wasn't in any classes with her.

"Thanks." She said when AJ complimented her. She knew most guys think girls look cute in oversized t-shirt or hoodies. She was used to wearing her ex boyfriends' jackets and t-shirt. She actually loved to wear something oversized for her small body. Firstly, because it was simply comfortable and secondly, it was so she didn't have to feel insecure about herself. Although Kayla wasn't fat, just like other girls her age, she would feel that she wasn't skinny enough. She had always admired the body of models she found in the magazines. They looked perfect. Not skinny, but slim. Kayla had always wanted to be like those tall models who have the perfect body shape, high cheekbones and tanned skin. She sighed at the thought of it. She could never be like that since she basically lived to eat.
"I don't get it." She said to Aj when he told her that talking to her was cool. "I've been a bitch to everyone, even to you. Then why are you still being so nice to me?" She asked, confused and curious. "If you haven't know, I am never nice to everyone. I don't want to be nice to anyone." She laughed a little. Kayla was just being honest. She didn't like to be nice to people. She always thought that being nice to others meant that you were giving others the chance to take advantage of you. That was one thing she learned in high school. The nicest kids in school were the ones who were always taken advantage of and people just didn't care about their feelings. Deep down, Kayla was a sweetheart. However, she didn't want anyone to know she was fragile. Because then, people would hurt her as much as they liked. She would rather people think of her as a bitch and fear her rather than to be hurt.
She chuckled. "So I guess you've been to a lot of parties too, huh?" She touched the sand and played with it. "Fine arts." She answered. "Believe it or not, I love to draw and paint. And I respect people who appreciate art. What do you study?" She asked Aj the same question. Throughout her life, she had met people many people who couldn't really appreciate art and she felt that they weren't conscious that art is everything around them.
