image coming soon, photobucket is retarded. the fireworks had already started. mason could hear them from the inside of his dark dreery apartment. the ex soldier sat silently on his bed, beer bottle in his right hand and his phone clutched in his right. he looked at the cracked screen, a picture of him and his wife, he was fading into the deep sleep that hit him after six or so beers each night. no. not tonight, tonight he was going to live it up, he was tired of sitting at home. letting out a groan he dropped his phone onto the floor and rubbed his face with his now free hand, following with the beer bottle to his mouth. as it hit his lips the sweet aroma of alcohol filled his nose. it was a scent that was familiar after the death of his fiance. now beer was his only love, it was all he had left, other then a shitty teaching job at the highschool. his students admired him but didnt respect him, and he was on thin ice for many outbursts of anger in the classroom.
finally pushing himself off of the unmade and unkept bed the room spun a bit and he reached for something to grab onto, hitting the dresser. he looked at himself in the mirror, he was a mess. letting out a laugh he wanted to punch the mirror. you pathetic piece of shit. he spit at himself. you dont deserve anyone anymore, you are nothing. he was always hard on himself, its how he was. his father was always hard on him, but after the death of his fiance things just fell apart. his parents grew apart from him and his fiance's family wanted nothing to do with him, except her sister. her sister wouldnt leave him the hell alone. she was always nagging him to get better, to start changing and of course he would argue with her all the time, things were different now. he screwed up by leaving. if he never would have left, she would still be alive.
he didnt need anyone to take care of him, he was perfectly fine on his own. throwing on a plain white tank top over his bare body he slipped his shoes on his feet and a hat on his head, facing backwards of course. he still had the beer in his hand as he grabbed his keys and headed out towards the grassy field where the fireworks were taking place. as he walked he felt himself tripping every now and then, the fireworks killing his head as he stepped closer. sitting on the grass he began to finsih off his drink, and he was politely interupted by a tap on his shoulder. turning around he looked up and noticed two cops staring at him. he let out a groan and chuckled can i help you officers? they knew him, everyone knew mason, he was the town trouble maker.
we need you to dispose of your alcohol sir. the pudgy cop pointed his finger at the bottle. mason laughed its empty, offislur he shook the now empty bottle and taunted to cop. the police were mason's best friend. he was always getting into trouble. he rolled his eyes and turned back around. no if you'll excuse me i am trying to enjoy the fireworks. the cops turned to leave but mason just had to push them go get me some donuts while youre at it, thanks guys the next thing he knew he was being hoisted off the ground and escorted off the grass. what the hell man, i was joking, take a friggin joke! mason of course struggled until his body finally gave in and was shoved into the back of the squad car. the pudgy cop took out his cell phone and was dialing a number, a number mason recognized oh so well, they were calling lil to come get him. jesus christ he threw his head back against the leather seat and closed his eyes.

a loud sigh simultaneously escaped from her plump lips as she arose from her chair in her small office, the back of her palm coming up to rub her left eye softly as her other arm stretched out. once her body grew accustomed to activity she stepped out of the room. she had not even been half way through the door when she heard her cellphone begin to ring with the sound she always dreaded hearing. the petite blonde had set up a special ringtone for whenever mason had a little incident with the authorities. lately it seemed as if it were happening a little too often. going back into the enclosed office, she reached out for the phone and answered it before pressing it to her ear. "hello?" the formal greeting had a less than joyous pitch to it, she already knew what was coming. she listened to the officer explain what had happened on the phone, through a short distance she could even hear mason’s voice exclaiming the words ‘jesus christ.’ well, if he did not want this shit to happen he should have thought twice before being rude to an officer! her oceanic orbs looked up the ceiling above her and her head shook shamefully. "look, i’m really sorry. i’ll be right there to pick him up." once she hung up the phone, she began making her way out of her house. yes, with her hair in a messy bun while wearing a black tank top and a pair of her peach colored warm pajama pants. previously to walking out the door, she reached for the michael kors hang bag and then finally walked out.
the drive to the location where mason had his episode was not too far from her home, it took her about ten minutes to arrive. when she did, she could see blue and red sirens shining brightly, proudly representing that these cops had made their latest bust. to be honest, mason was not a criminal; he was more a trouble maker. he had this whole “i don’t give a fuck” teenagerish thing going for him. it pissed lil off to no end, especially since he was too blind to even notice he was not the only one affected by this and that her sister would be so hurt to know that this was even going on. pulling up besides the white cop car, she came to a hasty stop and put her own vehicle in park. "lord, give me the patience and the strength to not harm this utter fool," so, that was not a typically prayer, nevertheless it was exactly what she needed right now. stepping out of her car, she walked over to the officer and looked over at the widowed man in the back of the car. "i’m really sorry," she told him again, offering up an apologetic smile. "he’s really just going through a tough time," she added. they were probably used to her making up excuses for him.

as he sat in the back of the squad car he looked down in his hands and let out a soft sigh. things were not going the way he planned. his life wasnt going the way he planned. he let out a small groan and fiddled with the handcuffs. he let out a groan and closed his eyes once more. the images of his wife playing over and over again in his head. he had not been there when she died and that killed him inside. she was murdered, someone stuck a gun to her head and shot her with no remorse what so ever. she could have had a family, and that person did not care, about her or about mason. mason was a wrecked man. everything was different and everything was changing in his life. his own family had shunned him from their lives. he was an emberassment and his wife's family hated him. the only person who seemed to even care about him was his future sister in law.
hearing a car pull up he looked out the window out of the corner of his eye and rolled his eyes. did you really have to call her? jesus christ just take me to jail he tapped on the window glaring at the cop. it was true, he would much rather have been in jail then sit there and listen to lillian complain the whole way home about how he was irresponsible and needed to start 'acting like an adult' and 'get his life back together' maybe he didnt want to do that. mason was perfectly fine with the way things were, he was perfectly fine drinking his life away and sitting in the back of cop cars. everyone knew him around miami and everyone knew his story. ex marine, lost his wife, teachs at the local school and is close to losing that job as well.
mason didnt have the clean record, but it was all that he had going for him. the cop finally opened the squad car door and mason didnt move. please, take me to jail he looked at the cop and at lil, rolling his eyes. she disgusted him. mainly because she looked just like his fiance. even just seeing her standing there reminded him of aubrey and it made him sick. the cop pulled him out of the car and unlocked his handcuffs. they patted his back, got in their car and drove away, leaving mason and lil there. the pounding of fireworks starting in the distance. lil i really dont want to deal with this right now ok? he turned to walk past her, sweeping past her with a quick light push.

the loud bang of the fireworks roared through the sky causing her to look up at them. it was astonishing how beautiful the sparks in the sky could be. what was even more incredible than that was the fact that lilly could not even concentrate on their splendor. she could feel her blood boil in her veins as her heart pounded in her chest, her anger was kicking in along with a trivial rush of adrenaline. she turned around and watched his back as he walked. the short distance between them made her feel more courageous since she did not have him towering over her causing a bulky amount of intimidation. "you never loved her." her voice was strong as it called above the sound of the explosives, and that statement was justly honest. if he truly loved her he would have picked himself up a long time ago and found a way to be happy; not for himself but for her, because that is all she would have ever wanted for him.
